목포 도심의 한 아파트에서 전열기구로 추정되는 화재가 발생했으나, 소방의 신속한 초동 대응과 주민들의 자력대피로 인명피해 없이 진화됐다.

겨울철 생활 전열기구의 위험성을 다시 한 번 환기시키는 사고다.
4일 오후 7시 56분경, 목포시 옥암동 옥암푸르지오아파트에서 화재가 발생했다.
불은 전기방석에서 원인 미상의 화재가 시작된 것으로 추정되며, 정확한 발화 원인은 현재 조사 중이다.

소방당국에 따르면 해당 건물은 철근콘크리트 구조의 15층 아파트 1개 동(연면적 6,722㎡)으로, 신고 접수 직후 소방·경찰·한전·도시가스 등 유관기관이 공동 대응에 나섰다.
총 49명(소방 43명, 경찰 2명, 한전 2명, 도시가스 2명)과 장비 21대가 투입됐다.

신고 접수 1분 만인 오후 7시 57분 공동대응이 요청됐고, 오후 8시 1분 선발대(하당출동대)가 현장에 도착해 진화에 착수했다. 불은 오후 8시 7분 완전히 진화됐다.

이 과정에서 주민 6명이 옥상으로, 5명이 지상층으로 자력 대피했으며 추가 인명 검색도 병행됐다.
현재까지 확인된 인명피해는 없다. 재산피해 규모는 조사 중이다.

소방당국은 “전기방석·전기장판 등 생활 전열 기구는 장시간 사용이나 노후 제품 사용 시 화재 위험이 높다”며 “외출·취침 전 반드시 전원을 차단하고, 과열 방지를 위한 안전수칙을 준수해 달라”고 당부했다.

한편, 이번 사고를 계기로 겨울철 전열기구 사용에 대한 경각심과 함께, 아파트 화재 발생 시 옥상·계단을 활용한 신속한 대피와 유관기관 공동대응 체계의 중요성도 다시 한 번 확인됐다.

Apartment Fire in Okam-dong, Mokpo… Electric Heating Pad Suspected, 11 Residents Evacuate on Their Own, No Injuries
A fire believed to have been caused by a household electric heating device broke out at an apartment complex in downtown Mokpo, but thanks to the fire department’s rapid initial response and residents’ self-evacuation, the blaze was extinguished without any casualties.
The incident once again highlights the dangers of winter household heating devices.
At approximately 7:56 p.m. on February 4, a fire occurred at Okam Prugio Apartment in Okam-dong, Mokpo City. The fire is suspected to have originated from an electric heating pad for reasons yet unknown. The exact cause is currently under investigation.
According to fire authorities, the building is a 15-story reinforced concrete apartment structure consisting of one building with a total floor area of 6,722 square meters. Immediately after the report was received, a joint response involving the fire department, police, Korea Electric Power Corporation, and the city gas company was initiated.
A total of 49 personnel—43 firefighters, 2 police officers, 2 KEPCO staff members, and 2 city gas officials—and 21 pieces of equipment were deployed.
Just one minute after the report, at 7:57 p.m., a joint response was requested. The first response unit (Hadang Fire Unit) arrived on scene at 8:01 p.m. and began suppression efforts. The fire was fully extinguished at 8:07 p.m.
During the incident, six residents evacuated to the rooftop and five evacuated to ground level on their own. Additional searches for occupants were conducted. No injuries have been confirmed so far. Property damage is currently being assessed.
Fire officials warned that “household electric heating devices such as electric heating pads and electric blankets pose a high fire risk when used for long periods or when products are old,” urging residents to “always turn off power before leaving home or going to sleep and strictly follow safety precautions to prevent overheating.”
The incident once again underscores the importance of heightened awareness regarding winter heating device safety, as well as the critical role of rapid evacuation using rooftops and stairwells and coordinated multi-agency response systems during apartment fires.
